Rinox Products Used to Reconstruct a Homeowner’s Deteriorating Asphalt Driveway
The owners of a charming home in Virginia Beach, Virginia were concerned with the deterioration of their once beautiful asphalt driveway. The driveway over time, with wear and tear, developed potholes along with cracking and parallel tire ruts. Another growing concern was how small the turnaround section was near the three car garage that housed the family vehicles. The area was becoming a liability with the limited space and steady traffic of vehicles to and from the property. With the family’s active busy schedule, this issue had to be addressed by a professional immediately to determine the proper measures required to fix their driveway. The homeowners called William Becker of Becker Enterprises to figure out their options, which included whether or not the current asphalt was repairable.
William Becker introduced these homeowners to what he knew would be the perfect solution, Rinox’s Interlocking Concrete Pavement products. He explained to the homeowners that by using this product, in a preset Rinox paver pattern, instead of asphalt, they would be guaranteed a safe environment for their family members. It would also result in an eye pleasing sight for many years to come backed by a lifetime product warranty. The homeowners agreed and immediately scheduled the job to be done.
To start, Becker took subsurface corrective measures for the new driveway by using 18"of modified stone compacted along with woven separation fabric between levels of aggregate as a base, which is above and beyond what the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) specifies for any vehicular application, preventing any failure of the base material below the pavers.
The homeowners chose Palazzo Modulo and Palazzo 9 x 9 pavers for their 15' wide by 195' long driveway that runs from the street and ends in a turnaround area by the garage. Becker tackled the once troubled turnaround area by widening the space almost triple the original size with a custom 60' wide Palazzo Modulo Circle. The end result provided the homeowners with a nice, safe space for traffic to turnaround as well as recreational purposes.
Becker continued to work his magic by beautifying the entrance and around the turnaround area by adding 4 Rinox Rio 135 retaining walls with 8 Rinox Rio 135 Pillars, each containing low-voltage lighting to denote the driveway entrance at night for visitors. Attached to the driveway are three different pathways leading to the house. Becker made sure each of these transitions properly angled away from the home’s structure so there will never be an issue with water. Being proactive, Becker also installed multiple catch basins, french drains and pop-ups throughout the entire project so that surface water would channel away from the driveway area and in the direction of the pond located at the rear of the property.
Upon completion of the overall project, the homeowners were extremely pleased with the professionalism of Becker’s installation crews, and also felt that their design team made the perfect choice in recommending the Rinox’s Palazzo paver product
